When measuring MFR and MVR with a melt indexer, depending on the shape and properties of the sample, it may not be possible to fill the furnace within 1 minute as specified in ISO 1133.
The stick maker is a device used to pressurize and compress moisture-sensitive samples (such as flake-shaped PET) or samples that are difficult to fill into a furnace body (such as powdery resins) at a temperature 10 to 20°C below the melting point of the resin to solidify them into a stick shape.
Forming the sample into sticks facilitates filling of the melt indexer and reduces the effects of hydrolysis of the sample.
