Description

The Taber Scuffing Head Attachment SH-300 expands the capability of the Taber Rotary Platform Abraser by enabling scuff, scrape, and adhesion-style durability tests on a wide range of materials. It is engineered specifically for use with Taber Abraser Models 1700 and 1750, providing a repeatable method to evaluate surface damage, coating failure, print durability, and scuff resistance.

The attachment mounts to the left abraser arm wheel hub and is secured using the Taber quick-release wheel collet. During testing, the scuffing head is held at a controlled 110° angle to the specimen turntable, with its vertical centerline positioned 32 mm from the center pin. As the platform rotates, the scuffing head is dragged over the specimen surface to create a consistent scuffing action. Two included weights allow the operator to apply either 0.45 kg or 0.9 kg load. A built-in top bracket prevents rotation of the scuffing head during operation, helping ensure repeatable alignment and contact.

For test setup, the Taber Abraser is operated normally, but the right abraser arm is stored upright and the vacuum system is not used during scuff head testing. Three scuff head profiles (Types A, B, and C) are available and sold separately to match common automotive and industry test methods.
